Chromium is a bluish white metal. It belongs to refractory metals and has a very high oxidation resistance (up to 1000 - 1300 оС). However, the low ductility of chromium and its alloys deters its wider application in industry. Among the alloying elements for chromium are tungsten, zirconium, molybdenum, hafnium, and others. But it is more useful for industry application as an alloying element. Chromium alloys are used in production of parts for long time operating in oxidizing environment at temperatures up to 1300 оС or for short time operating at 1500 - 1600 оС. These parts include thermocouple covers, internal flow paths for oil-refining industry installations, engine parts and etc. And the cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy is used in the manufacture of dentures. This alloy is characterized by fluidity, high hardness and elasticity.
