Tool high-speed steel obtained its name after the implementation in high-speed cutting processes where it was applied without losing its properties. High speed steels are notable for their high heat resistance (the ability withstand higher temperatures (600–650 оС) without losing its hardness and cutting ability. Materials used in the manufacture of cutting tools must possess high hardness ( ≥ 60–62 HRC ) and wear resistance (long-term ability to maintain the edge cutting properties in friction conditions). Containing a scarce tungsten and sometimes molybdenum, high speed steel used in manufacture of cutting tools is costly. They are only used in case where replacement by other materials is impractical. High-speed steels are used in the manufacture of drills, countersinks, milling cutters, taps, dies, shaping cutters, shavers, broaches and etc.
